Opera commissions underway
November 14, 2011
The potential of Songs for Silenced Voices is huge. The piece is raw and moving, completely accessible and of exceptional quality.
Clare McColgan, Director (Culture Liverpool)
Songs for Silenced Voices our twenty minute opera exploring the experiences of Britain’s homeless community is to be commissioned as a full length piece. It started life as two scratch, short operas which played, for free, to audiences in various empty shops in Liverpool and Blackburn City Centres. Due to the success of the events in December 2009 and 2010 a full length version will captivate and move audiences once more, in Liverpool city centre in the winter of 2012/3. Dic Edwards, Patrick Dineen and Sarah Thornton will be reunited as a creative team and creative discussions are already underway. Here is an extract from the 10 minute scratch piece in 2010.
