This full-day seminar will explore different approaches to designing and delivering first class participatory arts and cultural activities for older people.

By the end of the seminar participants will:

  • Understand the essential components of developing and delivering successful creative projects with older people.
  • Have been introduced to a range of exemplary creative ageing projects nationally and internationally.
  • Explored the challenges of delivering high-quality creative ageing projects.
  • Have an increased awareness of the social and personal outcomes creative ageing activities can achieve and how these might be measured.

Target Audience

This course is aimed at artists, theatre facilitators, project managers, activities coordinators and older people service providers. It’s for anyone looking to find new ways of working with older people, and those with some experience who are looking for practical tips and a refreshed approach.

Approach

This full-day course will use a mix of formal presentations, practical exercises and facilitated discussion.

Trainer: Sarah Thornton

Sarah Thornton is founding Artistic Director of Collective Encounters.  She established the company to make exciting, collaborative theatre and explore its potential to contribute to social change.  Her work with the company has drawn on her varied background which over the past 20 years has included applied work in diverse community contexts, developing and directing fringe and professional theatre, university lecturing and practice-as-research.
