General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in a Participatory Arts Context

Thursday 12nd April 2018, 12.30pm – 4.00pm, Liverpool

This half-day seminar will introduce participants to the implications of GDPR within the context of participatory arts.

By the end of the seminar, participants will:

  • Understand the key principles of GDPR
  • Understand the impact of GDPR on children & young people’s data
  • Understand the impact of GDPR on vulnerable adults data
  • Have a list of practical steps they can undertake to manage the change from existing data protection rules to GDPR

Target Audience

This course is aimed artists, arts administrators; arts project managers and voluntary sector managers. It’s for anyone new to GDPR, and those with some experience of data protection rules.


This half-day course is an informal seminar with plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion and learning from fellow-participants’ experiences.


Annette Burghes is Collective Encounters’ Executive Director. Annette studied Arts Management at London Metropolitan University and Law at the College of Law. Annette has worked in the arts and voluntary sector for twenty years, and recently co-authored The Social Impact of the Arts in Liverpool on behalf of Liverpool City Council.

Harriet Warnock is Collective Encounters’ General Manager. Harriet studied Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Hull before moving to London where she worked at Arcola Theatre, as Box Office Manager and at The National Theatre, in both the Marketing and Tours & Information departments. She has a Masters degree in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy from Goldsmiths.
