A Review of the Experience by Emma

Many years ago when I first came to CE, I was nervous it was scary and I had no confidence. But looking back I don’t know what I was afraid of.This year on the 2nd July I was one of seven performers who took to the stage at the Royal Opera House in London, which made me feel very proud and like a superstar. The fact that I have been able to speak and voice my opinion was really good. And boy what a journey I’ve been on, I can’t wait for the next project.

This has opened a lot more doors for me, I want to volunteer and go into the hostels and work with other people. I want to encourage other people to join in. basically if I can do it anybody else can do it too.

The message we took to the opera house was homeless people have time to kill, they miss their families and they drink because they are bored. Homelessness can happen to anyone from all walks of life. Don’t judge us.

A Review of the Evening by Sarah

What a wonderful night at the Royal Opera House!  A huge amount of talent – a real celebration of ability, and a joyous celebration of possibility.  From rap to opera, spoken word to singer-songwriters, the range was impressive and the event was brilliantly organised by Streetwise Opera.  The finale had all the performers, from throughout the UK, singing a new opera by Gavin Bryers sent shivers down your spine and an encore of Something Inside So Strong had the audience on their feet singing along – a very powerful moment indeed. A big well done to all 300 performers and Streetwise Opera for a fabulous, roof-raising event.

Our very own Kabin Crew took to the stage with Seize the Day, and poetry performing two pieces which were both hard-hitting and beautifully crafted.  Well done to the group and to Abi Horsfield, their fabulous facilitator.  Thanks to everyone at Streetwise and all the other organisations who were involved.  Emma, a Kabin Crew member said “this is our turn to shine”.
