Jennifer John: Your Voice and Theatre

In this workshop, singer and vocal coach Jennifer John will explore tools and techniques to improve your vocal performance. This is aimed at those who want to develop their speaking voices for performance, as well as those interested in a more musical direction!

The workshop will take place in two parts and we encourage you to register for both if you can.
Part 1: Tuesday 28 July, 4-5pm
Part 2: Tuesday 4 August, 4-5pm

Jennifer is a highly skilled and experienced Vocal Coach, Choir Leader, Music Lecturer and Mentor. Based in Liverpool, she is also a Singer, Songwriter and Vocal Arranger. She is the Music Manager of creative company and choir Sense of Sound Singers who provide lead vocals and backing vocals for studio recordings, live performances and offer bespoke packages and entertainment to the corporate sector. With 30 years of teaching experience within the commercial pop industry, she helps artists to reach their full potential. She has a passionate approach to teaching and an ability to bring out the best of her students’ individuality through artistic and technical development.

Keisha Thompson: Your Words and Theatre

In this workshop, poet and theatre maker Keisha Thompson will explore the journey from page to stage, looking at how to make theatre from poetry and spoken word.

The workshop will take place in two parts and we encourage you to register for both if you can.

Keisha Thompson is a Manchester based writer, performance artist and producer. She is currently touring award-winning solo show, Man on the Moon. Her debut book, Lunar, features her poetry and the show script and Moonwhile is a poetic mini album featuring music from the show. In 2020 she will work with commissioners Eclipse Theatre, York Theatre Royal and Pilot Theatre to stage new play, The Bell Curves. The script was made in development with Box of Tricks. She will also work with Fuel Theatre and Alan Lane (Slung Low) to create new children’s show, Izzy, BOSSS & Fractal. She will release a new mini album, Ephemera, in collaboration with Tom “Werkha” Leah.

Emilie Lahouel: Your Body and Theatre

In this workshop, physical theatre and movement artist Emilie Lahouel will introduce ways of moving from text to physical performance, and explore the political potential of physical theatre.

Emmy is a Director and Interdisciplinary Producer whose work has taken her across the UK and beyond. Recent works include: Assistant Director for Selina Thompson’s Salt (The Public Theatre, NYC, Jan 2020), Associate Director Eclipse Theatre’s Black Men Walking (June -Oct19), Assistant Director Princess and the Hustler, Eclipse, Bristol Old Vic & Hull Truck(Nov18 - April19). Engagement Manager and Lead artist The Missy Elliott Project, BAC, Contact, Site Gallery, Dublin Dance Festival, Limerick Dance. Lead artist Ludus Dance Mill girls and Militants & Lodestar. Her latest project DRIFT is supported by The Lowry and develops artists working with technology across art from.

Chris Thorpe: Your Brain and Theatre

In this workshop with award-winning writer, performer and theatre-maker Chris Thorpe we'll look some of the ways our brains process information, and how to combine that with our personal experience to make theatre.

Chris is a theatre-maker, writer and performer from Manchester. Recently he's written for the Royal Court, the Unicorn and for the Royal Exchange in Manchester, where he was an associate. He also has collaborative relationships with artists like Rachel Chavkin on Confirmation, Status and a new piece in development, Javaad Alipoor, Rachel Bagshaw, with whom he made The Shape of the Pain, and poets Yursa Warsama and Hannah Jane Walker. He tours his work in the UK and overseas, as well as working on community-based projects and mentoring.
