Area of practice: Lots of participatory theatre aims to tell the stories of communities who have been marginalised or are vulnerable. To amplify hidden stories that aren’t given space in the mainstream media. This Open Playground will explore practical exercises and creative prompts for making theatre based on participants’ lived experience, as well as discussing the ethics of this practice.

Event Format:

Open Playgrounds are events specifically designed to support participatory theatre makers develop their workshop practices. Open Playgrounds are facilitated by a member of the Collective Encounters’ team and on occasions there will be contributions from a guest practitioner.

These sessions will go beyond workshop activities to explore how participatory theatre makers are delivering the fundamentals of applied and participatory theatre forms. They are also an opportunity to connect and share with peers.

Open Playgrounds are not training events but facilitated forums in which ideas can be tested and shared.
