This full day course adopts a nuts and bolts approach to managing arts projects with a societal impact from planning to evaluation.

By the end of the seminar, participants will:

  • Have an enhanced understanding of liberal and radical change and the ethics involved
  • Have an enhanced understanding of the potential social impacts to be derived from a high-quality participatory arts process
  • Improved strategies for engaging those who are difficult to reach
  • A clear understanding of how to embed a change agenda from the start
  • Strategies for connecting into wider social policy objectives

Target Audience

This course is aimed at early to mid-stage artists, administrators and project managers in the arts, libraries and museums sector.

Approach

This full-day course will use a mix of formal presentations, practical exercises and facilitated discussion.

Trainers

Sarah Thornton is founding Artistic Director of Collective Encounters.  She established the company to make exciting, collaborative theatre and explore its potential to contribute to social change.  Her work with the company has drawn on her varied background which over the past 20 years has included applied work in diverse community contexts, developing and directing fringe and professional theatre, university lecturing and practice-as-research.

Mandy Redvers-Rowe, Head of Participation

Mandy’s career as a lecturer, writer and performer both regionally and nationally spans 25 years. For five years she acted as Artistic Director of North West Disability Arts Forum (now DADA) and spent many years as a lecturer in Community Theatre practice as both Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts and at Liverpool Hope University. Her written work has been produced by the Royal Exchange (Manchester), BBC Radio, Graeae, Paines Plough and BBC Television. Amanda joined the Collective Encounters’ team in February 2012.
